Anesthesia is a medical treatment using drugs called anesthetics to prevent patients from feeling pain during surgery. General anesthesia is a combination of medications that put you in an unconscious state to block pain and reflexes during medical procedures. Conscious sedation is a combination of sedatives and anesthetics to help you relax and block pain during a procedure. There are four types of anesthesia; general, regional, sedation, and local.
